Lava is a coffee that we have a personal relationship with because of our friend Alex Schumann from Coffeequest. Alex introduced us to the whole project before we even started roasting, and after the first year we agreed to include this coffee in our menu every year.
A year passed and due to transportation problems we didn't get to see this sweet bomb, but Alex promised us that she would do everything she could to make sure we got to see it next year.
Meanwhile, Alex visited the Great Lakes, where she taught farmers how to create and maintain their natural compost to fertilize coffee trees and much more - which is why we changed the name of this year's Lava Cherry to Lava Schu - we see the whole project as a reflection of her long-term work with farmers in this area.
Flavor profile
This year's Lava is again very, very sweet and creamy, but this year's harvest smells much more intensely than previous ones - both dry and wet. Its flavor profile will be appreciated by even the most seasoned coffee drinker and beginner.
Wide range of uses
A fragrant sweet coffee for espresso, with a beautiful creamy body, it doesn't get lost in milk drinks where notes of dark forest fruits and plums stand out.
After filtering, you will be enchanted again by its aroma, full sweetness complemented by gentle acidity and a creamy body.
We had Lava for the first time two years ago and this is what we wrote about it at the time:
We did not have a very positive relationship with coffees from Uganda, as their processing was at a very low level.
When Alex (The Coffee Quest) called us at the beginning of the year from the Sironko processing station, Mount Elgon (Uganda) to tell us we should expect great coffee, we were very skeptical at first. After an hour-long phone call and a demonstration of the processing at Great Lakes Coffee, we were very excited and immediately reserved one of the two lots. Soon the pre-shipment samples arrived, which literally made us sit on our asses ''This is Uganda?!''
If you are looking for a delicate, sweet coffee with a chocolate body and a gentle acidity for espresso or a very sweet filter without too much acidity - try this one out - ITS THE F*CKING BOMB
